McKell's BIG DAY!

Today is McKell's birthday, she is finally six! She has been looking forward to this day for many weeks. Yesterday we celebrated. She had a cooking birthday party and read on to see some shocking news from McKell.

McKell's Chef Academy entrance. Nate was NOT happy having his apron on. He screamed until I took it off and then was perfectly happy. Alyssa on the other hand was so happy she could be big and match McKell. She went to meet each of the guests with McKell and was happy to be 'in the know' with everything.
We first washed hands, got aprons and hats on. Then we teamed up and they each made their pizzas. The pizzas all looked so yummy and smelled great.

Phil's parents came and were wonderful to help out. The party ran so much better with a few more people to help out with Nate and the 13 partiers. The kids each got to decorate their own cakes (chocolate or white) and all of the cakes looked great.

Then they made salad on a stick. My girls love all these vegetables and some of the other kids were like- 'What why would we be eating veggies if we don't have to?!' Pretty self explanatory- skewer put on lettuce, cucumber, olives, tomato, cheese with a little Ranch for dipping.

We then ate the yummy pizzas. All the kids ate really good, I was thinking we would be throwing a lot of it away, but pretty much everyone ate all of it.

The boys did not want to sit at the little table with all the girls. It was the only time there seemed to be a division between the boys and girls. Oh, and the present opening- when McKell got her....
American Girl doll. All the girls were so excited talking so fast and the boys were bored out of their mind. She got so many fun presents and has played with each of them. She loves all of them from the American Girl doll and cat and dog to the girl (pink) Lego's to the airplane launcher and the bubbles, water barbie, etc, etc. We then blew out candles on the pizza cake, it actually was a cookie. So what do you think?

I was super impressed with myself. I thought it looked so much like a pizza. Cookie crust, red frosting, white chocolate shavings for the cheese, fruit roll-ups for the pepperoni, Jr. mints for the olives. The kids didn't really believe me at first that it was sugary stuff.
So the party was a big hit. Everything went really well and I wasn't stressed at all. McKell got done eating her ice cream and cake and came over to me on the couch and had her hat off. I looked at her hair and tried to fix the front, but I couldn't! Her hair was gone! What! She goes on to tell me right before the party started she ran upstairs and cut her bangs off! What! I still can't believe it. I felt like I was kicked in the stomach, seriously. I had just done all of this work for her and she cut her hair. What! So after the party we went and got her a haircut. I made her cut off her princess long hair and she loves it. The dumb lady at the hair place says,'well she did a good job at least.' I was like, there goes your tip! This was before

And this is after. I don't know what I think. When it grows a little bit we will take her to Laura (friend who cuts hair). She is the mom of one of the little girls at the party so when I was about to call her McKell started crying because she didn't want anyone to know what she had done. She was really nervous to go to church today because she was afraid of what people would think. Of course people liked it. It is ok, just so different! So right now, there will be NO party for McKell next year. Please, Please, Please remind me of the sick feeling (I am still feeling) after this event. McKell, if you ever read this- I love you, but no more haircutting!

Oh no! You better clarify that not only shouldn't McKell cut her own hair, but she can't cut her siblings' hair, either. (We've learned that the hard way!)
Also, just this morning while we were getting ready for church, Katelyn was screaming while getting her hair done, so as a threat, Matt said, "Do you want to cut off your hair?" Surprisingly, she answered, "YES!" (Real effective threat, huh?) So, she leaves and comes back with scissors in one hand and a lock of hair in the other! Apparently, she took it as an "invitation" rather than a "threat!"
By the way, I SOO don't believe you that McKell doesn't get a party next year!

This party turned out so cute!! What a fun idea. I love everything about it -- the aprons, the hats, the pizzas (both real and cookie), the cakes, etc! You did an awesome job. It looks like the kids had a blast.
Too funny about McKell cutting her hair. Every kid has to do that, right? Kaitlyn did hers a few years ago.
How are YOU going to resist throwing another fun party next year?? :)

The pizza cookie turned out soo cute! And so real looking! Nice work! That's funny the kids thought it was a real pizza.
Oh McKell, at least she only gave her bangs a trim. I remember when Tayler cut her curlers out of her hair when she was a wee girl and some spots were cut all the way to her scalp!

Oh my gosh, those aprons are the cutest! Did you make them all? Go Nicole! You outdid yourself with another great party!

McKell's hair looks cute, but I totally hear you on the sick feeling. Luckily, none of my kids have done that...YET, but at least she did do a decent job! And, I don't believe you on the no party for McKell next year either! How do YOU just not throw a party?! You are one of the biggest party planners I know!

Nicole,

When Robilynn and I were heading out and her hat was on I asked McKell if she had bangs. She ignored me... it had to have minutes since she had done this.

Oh Nicole.

On a better note it was the cutest party I have ever seen. You are the best. Amaya can't stop talking about it and I am loving the apron.

you seriously should open up a party planning business, your parties rock! i cut my hair too when i was around that age and it wasn't my bangs, it was the back of my head where i have a cowlick some of my hair was sticking up. my mom got mad at me and asked why i didn't just use water to wet it down? it took some time to grow out, meanwhile i looked like alfalfa from the little rascals.

OH MY! I cannot believe it. When Jen and I were dropping the girls off Jen asked if she had bangs and I said "I don't think so...no she doesn't!" WOW was I wrong. Apparently minutes ago she was chopping off her hair! Her new haircut looks great. It sure does make for a good story!

The party was a hit. Everyone loved it and Libby keeps telling me all about it. The party was a huge success! I'm with everyone else...I'll believe McKell doesn't get a party next year when I see it. I SO don't believe it!

Nicole-

You are seriously sooo creative! I actually thought the pizza cake was an acutal pizza! I feel your pain with the haircutting! Kate hasn't done it yet, but I have a feeling it will eventually happen.

Another spectacular party! I wish I could hire you but since I can't you should publish a book. I'd buy it.

Sorry to hear about McKell's hair. You almost wish people wouldn't tell her it looks cute so she'd learn a lesson.

LOL! Sorry, I hope you're laughing now about McKell's haircut. Wasn't she supposed to do that a few years ago? Oh Mckell! It does look super cute though-at least she didn't cut the bangs to her scalp.

So you've done it again-another FABULOUS party! Seriously I've said it before, I'll say it again-you need to write a party planning book! You always have such great parties! I LOVE the aprons! They turned out SO cute! Way to go!

My favorite... party YET! {and that's saying a lot for a NICOLE PARTAY!} The invite's were to die for... and everything was great!
Thanks for letting Aspen come.

Um. I asked McKell why she cut her bangs, when I saw her at school yesterday and she said. "I just wanted them out of my face!" TOO FUNNY!!! and NOT FUNNY! but... a fun story to tell!

Your birthday party's are so awesome. At least hair grows, that's what I have to say everytime someone decides to cut their hair Or someone elses. Taylor has cut her's a few times and than she cut Drew's so annoying especially when he was just getting some hair. Thankfully no bangs cut yet.

I am in awe of the cool parties you've done! What great ideas. When my kids saw the pizza cake you did Dallin insisted that we do that for his birthday party. Yours was WAY cuter than ours turned out but we had fun copying it! Thanks for the idea!
